A Westray Prayer (English)

i.m. Mike and Barbara Heasman

Let us now give thanks
for these salt-blown

wind-burned pastures
where oatgrass and timothy
shrink from the harrow of the sea

where Scotland at long last
wearies of muttering its own name
where we may begin

to believe we have always known
what someone in his wisdom
must have meant

when he gave us everything
and told us nothing

Modlitba vo Westray (Slovak)

na pamiatku Mika a Barbary Heasmana

Vyslovme teraz vďaku
týmto so soľou zaviatym

vetrom spáleným pastvinám
kde ovos a timotejka
od mučivej sily mora zvädnú

kde Škótsko konečne
z mumlania vlastného mena unaví sa
kde do viery ktorú sme

vždy ovládali pustiť môžeme sa
ktorú niekto vo svojej múdrosti
určite takto myslel

keď nám všetko daroval
a nič nám nepovedal
