Gom, Leona: Auction

Portre of Gom, Leona

Auction (English)

Rain.

Machinery and furniture

and all my past

in naked rows

across the yard.

The house, garage and barns

emptied, plundered

doorways ripped part.

Strangers pawing

through boxes

of dishes and books,

prodding the chesterfield

with dirty boots

and muttering junk.

My mother

brave and alone and uncrying

for the husband just buried

and the auctioneeer crying, sold

for one dollar

the day of the sale

there was rain

but nothing washed away then

or since.

Árverés (Hungarian)

Eső.

Gépezetek és bútorok

és mind a múltam

rideg sorokban

az udvaron át.

A ház, garázs és csűrök

kiürültek, kifosztott

ajtónyílások feltépett darabjai.

Idegenek össsze-

fogdosta edények

dobozai és könyvek,

piszkos csizmákkal

juggatott dívány

és motyogó szemét.

Anyám

bátor és magányos és könnytelen

csak eltemette férjét

és az árverező sír, árult

egy dollárért

a kiárusítás napján

ott volt az eső

de a semmit mosta el akkor

vagy azóta.
