Hardy, Thomas: Éppúgy, mint azelőtt (Just The Same in Hungarian)

Portre of Hardy, Thomas

Just The Same (English)

I sat. It all was past;

Hope never would hail again;

Fair days had ceased at a blast,

The world was a darkened den.

The beauty and dream were gone,

And the halo in which I had hied

So gaily gallantly on

Had suffered blot and died!

I went forth, heedless whither,

In a cloud too black for name:

- People frisked hither and thither;

The world was just the same.

Éppúgy, mint azelőtt (Hungarian)

Ültem. Minden oda;

Remény nem integetett;

Illant a boldog idő tova,

A világ sötét odu lett.

Szépség és álom: vége,

S amiben büszkén, vigan

Sütkéreztem, a dicsfényre

Szenny tapadt – oda van.

Mentem, merő fekete gyász,

Nem bánva, sorsom hova lök.

– S nyüzsgött a nép, folyt a világ,

Éppúgy, mint azelőtt.
