Heighton, Steven: Takayama: A Dream In Japanese

Portre of Heighton, Steven

Takayama: A Dream In Japanese (English)

1

You feel, so far inland,

   in a seabird’s midnight cry

the loss of a baby daughter.

2

By the river, where paper houses

perch on stilts like herons

in a rising tide, I sit

and dangle feet in currents

white as milk with melted snow, and wait

till the river rises through my emptiness, fills

my belly my heart my breasts, and breaks

in ocean brine from my eyes.

3

Why did you leave me

for the open sky?

Clouds rise, too,

but in a fall of snow

return to the earth.

Takayama (álom japánul) (Hungarian)

1

Oly messze, az ország belsejében

  egy tengeri madár éjféli kiáltásában

       egy lánycsecsemő elvesztését érzed.

2

A folyó partján, ahol papírházak

gubbasztanak gólyalábakon, mint gémek

dagály idején, ülök

és a lábam a vízbe lógatom,

ami tej-fehér, olvadt hóval, és várom,

hogy a folyó ürességembe emelkedjen, és megtöltse

a hasamat, a szívemet, a mellemet, és elvigye

a szememből a sós vizet az óceánba.

3

Miért mentél el tőlem

a szabad égbe?

A felhők is felszállnak,

de a hóesésben

visszatérnek a földre.
