Hughes, Langston: Én is Amerikát énekelem! (I, too, sing America. in Hungarian)

Portre of Hughes, Langston

I, too, sing America. (English)

I am the darker brother.

They send me to eat in the kitchen

When company comes,

But I laugh,

And eat well,

And grow strong.

Tomorrow,

I'll be at the table

When company comes.

Nobody'll dare

Say to me,

"Eat in the kitchen,"

Then.

Besides,

They'll see how beautiful I am

And be ashamed –

I, too, am America.

Én is Amerikát énekelem! (Hungarian)

Én vagyok a fekete testvér,

Ám ha vendégek jönnek,

A konyhába küldtök mégis enni,

De én csak nevetek:

Étvágyam van,

S egyre erősebb leszek.

Holnap,

Mikor a vendégek jönnek,

Az asztalnál fogok már

Én is enni.

És nem meri mondani

Nekem többé senki:

Eredj a konyhába enni.

És akkor szégyenkezve

Látjátok majd, milyen szép vagyok

Én, a fekete testvér.

Mert én is Amerika vagyok!
