Hughes, Langston: Én is (I, too, sing America. in Hungarian)

Portre of Hughes, Langston
Portre of Góz Adrienn

Back to the translator

I, too, sing America. (English)

I am the darker brother.

They send me to eat in the kitchen

When company comes,

But I laugh,

And eat well,

And grow strong.

Tomorrow,

I'll be at the table

When company comes.

Nobody'll dare

Say to me,

"Eat in the kitchen,"

Then.

Besides,

They'll see how beautiful I am

And be ashamed –

I, too, am America.

Én is (Hungarian)

Én is Amerikát dalolom.

A sötétebbik testvér én vagyok.
A konyhába küldenek ki enni,
Amikor társaság jön,
De én csak kacagok,
Jóllakom,
És megerősödök.

Holnap
Az asztalnál leszek,
Amikor jön a társaság.
Senki sem meri majd
Azt mondani nekem
Azután, hogy
„Te a konyhában eszel."

Ráadásul
Azt is meglátják, hogy milyen szép vagyok
És szégyenkeznek majd –

Mert én is Amerika vagyok.
