Humphreys, Raymond: Giliszta (Worm in Hungarian)

Portre of Humphreys, Raymond
Portre of Dabi István

Back to the translator

Worm (English)

O worm.

Splendid on the rain-fresh turf,

With your fine pointed head

And your bold thrashing tail

Why, if I were as much of a man

As this worm is a worm,

Then what a man I would be.

Giliszta (Hungarian)

Oh, giliszta,

Az eső áztatta friss füvön csillogó,

Finom, hegyes fejeddel

És örökkön csapkodó farkaddal

Ha oly nagy lennék, mint egy ember

Mint ez a giliszta akkora, mint egy giliszta,

Micsoda ember lennék!
