Joyce, James: Chamber Music XXVI

Portre of Joyce, James

Chamber Music XXVI (English)

Thou leanest to the shell of night,

Dear lady, a divining ear,

In that soft choiring of delight

What sound hath made thy heart to fear?

Seemed it of rivers rushing forth

From the grey deserts of the north?

That mood of thine, O timorous,

Is his, if thou but scan it well,

Whoa mad tale bequeaths to us

At ghosting hour conjurable

And all for some strange name he read

In Purchas or in Holinshed.

Kamarazene XXVI (Hungarian)

Az éj kagylójához hajol

Ó, drága hölgy, sejtő füled.

Ott a gyönyör zsoltára szól,

Mért tölt el hát ily rémület?

Mit hallottál? Folyók zaját,

Mik zord pusztákon zúgnak át?

Olyan vagy, kis bátortalan,

Mint aki — csak figyeld meg őt —

Őrült mesét mond untalan.

Szellemórán idézhetőt —

Pár furcsa szóért, mit kopott

Vén krónikákban olvasott.
