The Sage (English)

The cat is eating the roses:
that's the way he is.
Don't stop him, don't stop
the world going round,
that's the way things are.
The third of May
was misty; fourth of May
who knows. Sweep
the rose-meat up, throw the bits
out in the rain.
He never eats
every crumb, says
the hearts are bitter.
That's the way he is, he knows
the world and the weather.

A bölcs (Hungarian)

A macska a rózsát eszi:
tudja, ez a dolgok rendje.
Ne állítsd meg; ne állítsd meg
a világ forgását,
ez a dolgok rendje.
Május harmadika ködös
volt; negyedike milyen
lesz, ki tudja. Söpörd
fel a rózsa-húst, szórd
a cafatot az esőbe.
A macska mindig meghagy
egy falatot: a szívek
keserűek, mondja.
Tudja, mi a dolgok rendje; milyen
a világ, hogyan fordul az idő.
