Lindsay, Vachel: A virág-járó bölények (The Flower-Fed Buffaloes in Hungarian)

The Flower-Fed Buffaloes (English)

The flower-fed buffaloes of the spring
In the days of long ago,
Ranged where the locomotives sing
And the prairie flowers lie low:-
The tossing, blooming, perfumed grass
Is swept away by the wheat,
Wheels and wheels and wheels spin by
In the spring that still is sweet.
But the flower-fed buffaloes of the spring
Left us, long ago.
They gore no more, they bellow no more,
They trundle around the hills no more:-
With the Blackfeet, lying low,
With the Pawnees, lying low,
Lying low.

A virág-járó bölények (Hungarian)

A virág-járó tavaszi bölények
rég elmúlt éveken
ott jártak, hol a mozdonyok zenélnek
s a prérivirág pihen,
hol a bomló, feslő, jószagu fűre
rádőlt a gabona,
kerék-kerék-kerék gurul
és a tavasz a régi csoda.
De virág-járó tavaszi bölények
nem lesznek már sosem.
Nem döfnek már, nem is bőgnek már,
nem is kergetőznek a dombon már -
a Fekete Láb pihen,
a Szürke Toll pihen
pihen.
