Murray, Les A.: Fordított ballada (Inverse Ballad in Hungarian)

Portre of Murray, Les A.

Inverse Ballad (English)

Grandfather's grandfather rode down from New England
that terrible steep road. One time there, his horse
shat over his shoulder. It's not so steep now.
Anyway he was riding, and two fellows came
out of the brush with revolvers pointed at him:

Bail up! What joy have you got for the poor, eh?
Bail up? Ye're never bushrangers? Wad ye shoot me?
My oath we'd shoot yer -. He looked them up and down,
poor weedy toerags both. Ye'd really shoot, then?
Masel, I never find it necessary.

Eh? You're on our lay, are you? - Aye, I am.
Ward's the name. - Not Thunderbolt? By Hell. Hmm.
They muttered some asides. Well, Mister Ward, you
are money on the hoof. A thousand's a fair screw
for turning you in. Dead or alive, so ride!

Were going to town to sell your pretty hide.
It must have felt lonely, riding ahead of them
knowing they could just as easily turn you in
head lolling and blood dripping, strapped over your saddle.
When they readied the police post, the old sergeant listened

a moment, then snapped: Ye'll gie me thae barkers;
hand them over! Constable, handcuff you men!
Ye ignorant puir loons, did ye no ken
Thunderbolt's no Scots. He disnae talk like me.
Yell hae time tae regret bailing up Mister Murray!

Ward’s wintertime employer, had the police or he known.

Fordított ballada (Hungarian)

Nagyapám nagyapja lelovagolt Új-Angliából.
Olyan meredek volt az út, hogy lovának ürüléke
átrepült a válla fölött. Most már nem olyan meredek.
Amint ott lovagolt, hirtelen két férfi bukkant elő
a bozótból és pisztolyt szegeztek rá:

Add meg magad! Gondolj a szegényekre, ha-ha!
Adjam meg magam? Csak nem útonállók vagytok?
Lepuffantanátok? Istenemre, le, - Végigmérte őket, oda is,
vissza is, cingár, rongyos alak volt mind a kettő. Tényleg le?
Ha rám hallgattok, erre semmi szükség.

Mi? Csak nem közülünk való vagy? - De biza igen.
Ward a nevem. - Csak nem a híres Villámcsapás? A pokolba. Hm.

Magányos érzés lehetett a két gazfickó előtt lovagolni,
tudván, hogy ugyanúgy feladhatják lebicsakló fejjel,
vértől csöpögő arccal, a nyeregről élettelenül lelógva is.
Amint a csendőrőrsre értek, az öreg őrmester hallgatott

egy sort, azután felcsattant: Ide azzal a két stukkerral,
de izibe! Tizedes, bilincset erre a két lókötőre!
