Nash, Ogden: Bestial poems - 8.

Portre of Nash, Ogden

Bestial poems - 8. (English)

The Pigeon

Toward a better world I contribute my modest smidgin;
I eat the squab, lest it become a pigeon.

The Hippopotamus

Behold the hippopotamus!
We laugh at how he looks to us,
And yet in moments dank and grim,
I wonder how we look to him.

Peace, peace, thou hippopotamus!
We really look all right to us,
As you no doubt delight the eye
Of other hippopotami.

The Shrimp

A shrimp who sought his lady shrimp
Could catch no glimpse
Not even a glimp.
At times, translucence
Is rather a nuisance.

Állati versek - 8. (Hungarian)

A galamb

Megettem egy galambtojást, hasznos kaland:
Abból már nem lesz kalapra tojó galamb.

A víziló

Nézd, a vicces víziló!
Bámul ránk ezer kiló.
Mégis azon tökölök,
Hogyan bámuljuk mi őt.

Nyugi, nyugi, víziló!
Csak magunkat nézni jó.
A te szemed is megakad,
Ha lát vízilovakat.

Rák és rákné

A pici rák így inti ráknét:
"Bújjunk a vízbe, mert valaki ránklép!"
Ha rák az ember, jó, ha nem látják az embert,
Jó, ha nyilvánosan mutatkozni nem mert,
És jó, ha elérte a tengert.
