Patmore, Coventry: Magna Est Veritas (Magna Est Veritas in Hungarian)

Portre of Patmore, Coventry

Back to the translator

Magna Est Veritas (English)

Here, in this little Bay,
Full of tumultuous life and great repose,
Where, twice a day,
The purposeless, glad ocean comes and goes,
Under high cliffs, and far from the huge town,
I sit me down.
For want of me the world's course will not fail:
When all its work is done, the lie shall rot;
The truth is great, and shall prevail,
When none cares whether it prevail or not.

Magna Est Veritas (Hungarian)

Az öböl feléled
zajongva itt, de csöndből sincs hiány,
hol kétszer jön és megy,
naponta, nincs cél, a boldog óceán,
szirtek tövénél, várostól messze
ülök merengve.
Távollétem nem gond a világnak;
munkája múltán az álság rohad;
Irdatlan az igazság és irányt szab,
mindegy, hogy győz-e vagy alul marad.
