Pound, Ezra: Üdvözlet (Salutation in Hungarian)

Portre of Pound, Ezra
Portre of P. T.

Salutation (English)

O generation of the thoroughly smug

      and thoroughly uncomfortable,

I have seen fishermen picnicking in the sun,

I have seen them with untidy families,

I have seen their smiles full of teeth

      and heard ungainly laughter.

And I am happier than you are,

And they were happier than I am;

And the fish swim in the lake

      and do not even own clothing.

Üdvözlet (Hungarian)

Ó, alaposan önelégült és ugyancsak

      kényelmetlen generációk,

Láttam a napon piknikező halászokat,

Láttam rendetlen családjuk körében,

Láttam fogakkal teli mosolyuk

      és hallottam félszeg nevetésük.

Én boldogabb vagyok, mint te,

Ők boldogabbak voltak, mint én;

A hal úszik a tóban

      és nem is tud saját ruháról.
