Shelley, Percy Bysshe: Panasz (A Lament in Hungarian)

Portre of Shelley, Percy Bysshe
Portre of Szabó Lőrinc

Back to the translator

A Lament (English)

O World! O Life! O Time!

On whose last steps I climb,

Trembling at that where I had stood before;

When will return the glory of your prime?

No more – Oh, never more!

Out of the day and night

A joy has taken flight:

Fresh spring, and summer, and winter hoar

Move my faint heart with grief, but with delight

No more – Oh, never more!

Panasz (Hungarian)

Világ! Élet! Idő!

Vad csúcsod egyre nő,

s hol előbb álltam, a szirt mélybe száll;

visszajön még tavaszod, a dicső?

Soha – óh, soha már!

Éj s nappal öröme

elröpült; tél dere

ér még szívemhez és a nyár

és a tavasz gyásza, de gyönyöre

soha – óh, soha már!
