Sitwell, Edith: A Girl’s Song In Winter

Portre of Sitwell, Edith

A Girl’s Song In Winter (English)

for Cyril Connolly

That lovely dying white swan, the singing sun,
Will soon be gone. But seeing the snow falling, who could tell one
From the other? The snow, that swan-plumaged circling creature, said
‘Young girl, soon the tracing of Time’s bird-feet of snow
Will be seen upon your smooth cheek. Oh, soon you will be
Colder, my sweet, than me!’

Lány téli éneke (Hungarian)

Cyril Connollynak

A zengő, nap, e szép fehér, haldokló hattyú már
hamar leszáll. A hulló hópelyhek közt mint talál
különbséget a szem? A hattyú-pelyhű forgó lány, a hó így szól:
„Kislány, az Idő madárlábnyoma s a hó madárlépte hamar
föltűnik sima arcodon. Ó, édesem hamar
hidegebb leszel nálam is!"
