Stevens, Wallace: Kiábrándulás, este tízkor (Disillusionment of Ten O'Clock in Hungarian)

Portre of Stevens, Wallace

Disillusionment of Ten O'Clock (English)

The houses are haunted

By white night-gowns.

None are green,

Or purple with green rings,

Or green with yellow rings,

Or yellow with blue rings.

None of them are strange,

With socks of lace

And beaded ceintures.

People are not going

To dream of baboons and periwinkles.

Only, here and there, an old sailor,

Drunk and asleep in his boots,

Catches Tigers

In red weather.

Kiábrándulás, este tízkor (Hungarian)

A házakban hófehér

háló-ingek kisértenek.

Egyik se zöld,

vagy püspöklila zöld körökkel,

vagy zöld sárgás körökkel,

vagy sárga kék körökkel.

Egyik sem meglepő -

mondjuk: csipke-zoknis,

vagy gyöngy-öves.

Senkisem álmodik

páviánokkal, ehető csigákkal.

Csak itt-ott, egy-egy kivénhedt tengerész,

ki csizmában alszik, jól beszívva,

fogdos tigriseket

a rőt esőben.
