Stevenson, Robert Louis: Rekviem (Requiem in Hungarian)

Portre of Stevenson, Robert Louis
Portre of Naschitz Frigyes

Back to the translator

Requiem (English)

Under the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie:
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.

This be the verse you 'grave for me:
  Here he lies where he long'd to be;
Home is the sailor, home from the sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.

Rekviem (Hungarian)

Csillagos nagy égbolt alatt
  temessetek el, aki vagyok.
Szívesen éltem, de nem bánom
  hogy terhem letéve meghalok.

Síromon álljon ez a vers:
  “itt jegyeztem el a halált.
A tengerész otthagyta a tengert
és a vadász a dombról hazatalált.
