The Tree of Song (English)

I sang my songs for the rest,
For you I am still;
The tree of my song is bare
On its shining hill.

For you came like a lordly wind,
And the leaves were whirled
Far as forgotten things
Past the rim of the world.

The tree of my song stands bare
Against the blue –
I gave my songs to the rest,
Myself to you.

Dalomnak fája (Hungarian)

Mindenkié dalaim,
A tied vagyok én;
Dalomnak fája csupasz
Fénylő hegyén.

Jöttél mint szelek ura,
S szállt, messzire,
Lombom mint a feledés:
A világ pereme.

Dalomnak fája csupasz
Fölötte egek –
Másnak adtam dalaim,
Magamat neked.

Megjegyzés. Az eredeti nem mondja, hogy a feledés a világ pereme, hanem: 
... s a levelek forgó örvényben elszálltak / Messzire akár az elfelejtett dolgok / A világ peremén túlra. Az ilyen eltérések miatt mondják, hogy traduttore – traditore, fordítás – ferdítés. De ez csak afféle elcsépelt féligazság. Az a képszerű fikció, hogy az elfelejtés messze van és az a világ határa, amelyen túl nem létezik semmi, nem különbözik lényegesen attól, hogy "mint ahogyan az elfelejtett dolgok örvénylenek ki a világ peremén túlra". Az utóbbi kép kétségtelenül jobb az előbbinél – angolul, de magyarul rossz volna, mert nehézkesen magyarázkodó, márpedig az eredeti nem nehézkes és nem rossz. /A ford./
