Williams, William Carlos: Egy néger nő (A Negro Woman in Hungarian)

Portre of Williams, William Carlos

A Negro Woman (English)

carrying a bunch of marigolds

        wrapped

                     in an old newspaper:

She carries them upright,

       bareheaded,

                     the bulk

of her thighs

       causing her to waddle

                     as she walks

looking into

the store window which she passes

                    on her way.

What is she

       but an ambassador

                    from another world

a world of pretty marigolds

       of two shades

                    which she announces

not knowing what she does

        other

                   than walk the streets

holding the flowers upright

        as a torch

                   so early in the morning.

Egy néger nő (Hungarian)

karján egy csokor gólyahír

       öreg újságpapírba

                csomagolva:

viszi egyenesen,

       hajadonfőtt,

               combjai

terjedelme

       kacsázni kényszeríti

              ahogy megy

és benéz

       az útjába eső

              bolt ablakán.

Mi más ő

       mint egy másik világ

              követe

két színben játszó

      szép gólyahír világé

             azt hírleli

de tudni csak annyit tud

      hogy

            megy az utcán

egyenesen tartja a virágot

     mint egy fáklyát

           ilyen kora reggel.
