Williams, William Carlos: Flowers by the Sea

Portre of Williams, William Carlos

Flowers by the Sea (English)

When over the flowery, sharp pasture’s
edge, unseen, the salt ocean

lifts its form - chicory and daisies
tied, released, seem hardly flowers alone

but color and the movement - or the shape
perhaps - of restlessness, whereas

the sea is circled and sways
peacefully upon its plantlike stem

Virágok a tengernél (Hungarian)

Amikor a sós óceán észrevétlen
a legelő virágos, éles széle fölé

emeli formáját - a pitypang és százszorszép
megkötve, eloldva nemcsak virág,

hanem szín és a nyugtalanság
megannyi gesztusai - vagy mintája tán -

a tenger meg csupa kör, és békésen
himbálózik virágszárán
