Williams, William Carlos: Mintha (The Term in Hungarian)

Portre of Williams, William Carlos
Portre of Kodolányi Gyula

Back to the translator

The Term (English)

A rumpled sheet

Of brown paper

About the length

And apparent bulk

Of a man was

Rolling with the

Wind slowly over

And over in

The street as

A car drove down

Upon it and

Crushed it to

The ground. Unlike

A man it rose

Again rolling

With the wind over

And over to be as

It was before.

Mintha (Hungarian)

Gyűrött, barna

csomagoló

papír, hossza és

alakja mintha

emberé volna,

görgött lassan

a széllel véges

végig az

utcán, míg

ráhajtott egy

autó és szét-

lapította. Nem

ember módra

felkelt és görgött

ismét a széllel

véges végig az

utcán, hogy legyen

mi volt azelőtt.
