Yeats, William Butler: Ha ősz leszel s öreg (When You are Old in Hungarian)

Portre of Yeats, William Butler

When You are Old (English)

When you are old and gray and full of sleep
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true;
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face.

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead,
And hid his face amid a crown of stars.

Ha ősz leszel s öreg (Hungarian)

Ha ősz leszel s öreg, s lehúz az álom,
s a tűznél bóbiskolsz, vedd le e könyvet,
lapozgasd, álmodozz csak régi, könnyed
pillantásodról: visszfény volt az árnyon.

Hányan szerették jó kedved sugárát,
s imádták hű vagy hamis szerelemmel,
de én zarándok lelkedet szerettem
és változó arcod szomorúságát.

S az izzó kandalló-rácshoz hajolva,
suttogd, kicsit fájón: hogy elszökött
a Szerelem, suhan a hegy fölött,
s elrejti arcát fátylas csillagokba.
