Kangro, Maarja: The butterfly of no return (Pöördumatuseliblikas in English)

Portre of Kangro, Maarja

Pöördumatuseliblikas (Estonian)

'jälle' on suur sõna.

sest sellest unest usutakse end virguvat
ja jälle

ma rapsan tiivaga
head mehed raadios hakkavad köhima
ma lehvitan laiemalt ja tõuseb tuul

mehed köhivad kõõksudes, eeter mässab
laevad ja suplejad upuvad, viimane uni
tuleb tormine ja hall

mõelgem sõnast, mida polnud varem olnud
ta oli nüüd
ja nüüd teda enam pole

The butterfly of no return (English)

again is a big word.
slowly and quickly
again

again the men on the radio rejoice
that they are on the right path
and speak about cyclical time

the right path circles about, even I recognize
young skin on the beach and
"et si tu n´existais pas," the loudspeaker sings

the men on the radio are saying that everything
is connected: "the butterfly effect," a voice rings out
I lift my wings

in cyclical time you sleep well
knowing you´ll wake revitalized
and again

I flutter my wing
the good men on the radio start coughing
I work my wings, a wind rises

the men cough and splutter, the air rebels
ships sink and swimmers drown, the last dream
arrives stormy and grey

let´s think of a word that has never been
now it was
and now it is not any longer
