Kiiskinen, Jyrki: I fall upwards (Putoan ylös in English)

Portre of Kiiskinen, Jyrki

Putoan ylös (Finnish)

Vain yksi harha-askel heinikkoon, ja sinä

putoat hiuksiesi läpi, kuten minä putosin

vain yksi väärä sana, ja sinä putoat

mustasta aukosta jonka sana teki

sanojen väliin.

Se iski kielen hajalle, partikkeleiksi

et voi enää osoittaa mitään, sormellasi

et nahdä tai kuulla.

Olet suu joka syö sanansa, sana joka syö

suunsa, nälkäinen suu

joka syö omaa poskeaan.

Vain yksi väärä katse, ja sinä putoat

vieraaseen maahan, vieras putoaa

sinun lävitsesi, kuten minä

putosin maailman reunalta ja putoan yhä.

Näen näkyjä, surullisia kasvoja

mustuvia lampaita ja kivettyviä lehtipuita

tiilirakennuksia jotka peittyvät

kitkerään savuun. Ihmiset muuttavat

kuormineen pois ja vievät kuolleet mukanaan

sairaat vievät elävät mukanaan,

elävät vievät mukanaan paratiisin.

Muistot valehtelevat, siksi minä putoan

äidin kasvojen välissä,

putoan hymyä kohti,

mutta hymy pakenee loppuun asti.

I fall upwards (English)

Just one wrong step into the grass, and you

will fall through your hair, as I fell

just une wrong word, and you will fall

through the black hole that the word made

between the words.

It smashed language to pieces, into particles

you can no longer point at anything, with

your finger

you can't see ot hear.

You are a mouth that eats its words, a word

that eats its mouth, a hungry mouth

that eats its own cheek.

Just one wrong look, and you fall

into a strange country, a stranger falls

through you, as I

fell from the edge of the world and am still

falling.

I see visions, sad faces

sheep turning black and trees turning stone

brick buildings that are covered

in bitter smoke. People move

away with their burdens and take their dead

with them

the sick take the living with them,

the living take with them paradise.

Memories lie, therefore I am falling

through mother's face,

I fall toward the smile,

but it escapes me until the end.
