Áprily Lajos: Ajánlás

Ne haragudj. A rét deres volt,
a havasok nagyon lilák,
s az erdő óriás vörös folt,
ne haragudj: nem volt virág.
 
De puszta kézzel mégse jöttem:
hol a halál nagyon zenél,
sziromtalan csokrot kötöttem,
piros bogyó, piros levél.
 
S most add a lelked: karcsu váza,
mely őrzi még a nyár borát –
s a hervadás vörös varázsa
most ráborítja bíborát.

I’m sorry. The field was frosty,
the mountains of a violet shade,
and a huge red patch the forest,
there were no flowers, I’m afraid.

But still I haven’t come with empty hand:
where death’s playing mighty music
I tied a petalless bunch with a band,
only red berries and red leaves.

And now, give me your soul: slim vase
still retaining that summer wine -
and the red miracle of withered grace
now covers it up with its purple fine.
