Ady Endre: The Arrival of God (Az Úr érkezése in English)

Portre of Ady Endre

Az Úr érkezése (Hungarian)

Mikor elhagytak,
Mikor a lelkem roskadozva vittem,
Csöndesen és váratlanul
Átölelt az Isten.

Nem harsonával,
Hanem jött néma, igaz öleléssel,
Nem jött szép, tüzes nappalon
De háborús éjjel.

És megvakultak
Hiú szemeim. Meghalt ifjúságom,
De őt, a fényest, nagyszerűt,
Mindörökre látom.

The Arrival of God (English)

When I was left,

When I could hardly carry my soul,

In the silent, unexpected I was embraced

By the God.

Not with bugle,

But he came with dumb, true embrace,

Nor in bright daylight

But in the night, when war raged.

And my vain eyes

Got blinded. And my youthfullness died,

Only to see his brigthly greatness,

Forever in my life.
