Baka István: Kutya

Portre of Baka István

Kutya (Hungarian)

Körülhemperegted a fákat,
Leráztad irtózatod,
Szabad vagy – horpaszodban már csak
A belek láncát lógatod.

De – míg buzgalmad feledi
Az udvart, tornáctól az ólig –
A vadvizekre emberi
Dühök homloka ráncolódik.

A felhők közt bakancsszögek:
Rúgások csillagképei;
Lekushadsz, s retteg szemed
Füvek pillája verdesi.

S amint a holdon feltünik
Eszelős, hű tekinteted,
Mint egy nagy gazda lábait,
Végigszagolod a fűzeket.

Dog (English)

You rolled among the trees, your plays
shook off the dread yet once again,
you're free - by now your flank displays
only your dangling bowel-chain.
But, whilst your ample zeal forgets
the home run from porch to the pen,
ripples on puddles mimic sets
of lines on brows of angry men.
Hobnails of boots on cloudy skies:
constellations, like kicks, appear;
you crouch and, lashed by grass, your eyes
begin to show the signs of fear.
And when you look and see the moon,
as if your owner's feet to please,
with dotty, faithful look you soon
run off, and sniff the willow trees.
