Rekviem (Hungarian)
Százholdas szívedben elfért a világ,
a napok lovai mégis tiportak rajtad,
héthatárba nyerítették bánatodat,
a szegénységet; tüskés ágai fölhasogatták
arcod, vérzett, lecsöppent a porba,
átszivárgott a gyökerek éjszakáján,
az idő csontja is véresen ropogott.
Emlékszem, amikor apád meghalt,
éppen meszeltél, s te meszes kézzel
fenyegetted az istent, aki az ég
szürke ajtaja mögé zárkózott átkaid elől.
Magadra maradtál. Szemeid vakablakán
belépő embersor rádröhögött, szoknyád
alá nyúlkáltak; megkövült kínoddal
szédelegtél közöttük. Gyermekeid is
elvágytak mellőled; a kenyér,
amit a szívedből törtél, már keserű volt,
hiába muzsikáltál a csend piros-hegedűin,
nem aludtak el többet rajta, mindegyikkel
elfutottak a vonagló utak, még árnyék-foszlány
sem maradt belőlük, egy elszakadt cipőfűző,
agyonfogdosott fénykép, de még egy hajszál sem.
Magadra maradtál anyám!
Most már csak azt várhatod, hogy a
por-koporsóban húsod falai szétomoljanak,
százholdas szívedben göröngyök táncoljanak,
és meszes ujjaid vas-dárdái az égre meredjenek.

Requiem (English)
All the world fit in your hundred-acre heart, horses of everyday still trampled on you, neighed into the whole wide world your sorrow and poverty; its thorny twigs rived up your face, it bled, the blood trickled into the dust, it seeped through the night of the roots, even the bone of time crackled bloodstained. I remember when your father died, you were whitewashing, and with limy hands you menaced god, who from your curses hid himself behind the grey door of the sky. You were left alone. Lines of people entering through dead windows of your eyes guffawed at you, they reached out under your skirt, with fossilized pain you dizzily tossed and turned among them. Even your children wished to leave you; the bread you had broken from your heart was already bitter, you played music on red-violins of silence in vain, they didn’t fall asleep to it any more, writhing roads ran away with them, not even their shadow-frays remained, a tattered shoelace, a well-thumbed photo, not even a single hair. You were left alone, mother! All you can wait for now is that in a dust-coffin the walls of your flesh disperse, clods of earth dance in your hundred-acre heart, and the iron spears of your sclerosed fingers thrust to the sky.
