Benő Attila: (a day and all the rest) ((egy nap és a többi) in English)

Portre of Benő Attila

(egy nap és a többi) (Hungarian)

Ágyba bújunk és arra gondolunk,

hogy merre fordul körhinta-életünk.

Majd fogat mosunk és vacsorázunk.

A válaszomat kérdezed.

Ablakunk párkányáról elriadnak a galambok.

Ebédelünk. Mondom, hogy semmi se ismétlődik,

a galambok se ugyanazok az ablakunknál.

Szeszes vattát teszek az ujjamra,

oda ahol a kés meg fogja vágni.

Nem tanulsz a hibáidból, mondod.

Ujjamból vér cseppen,

és a kés élét előcsalja.

Hazaérkezünk. A kollégáinktól elköszönünk.

Ma újra zsémbes a főnök.

Mozgólépcső, mozgójárda. Mozgóhangulat.

Elzártad a vizet? Leoltottad a tüzet?

Miért ellenőrződ folyton, hogy bezártad-e az ajtót?

Kikapcsolód a rádiót. Szól a reggeli sláger.

Hajnalodik, mert közeleg az éjszaka.

Valóról valóra ébredünk. Csengetni fog az óra.

Mielőtt elaludnánk egymásnak jobb tegnapot ígérünk.

Szürkölödik. Alkony van, vagy hajnal?

Csütörtök, szerda, kedd...

(a day and all the rest) (English)

We go to bed and start thinking

where’s our carousel-life’s heading.

Then we clean our teeth and have dinner.

You want to hear my answer.

Startled pigeons fly up from our windowsill.

We have lunch. I say, nothing ever repeats itself,

not even the pigeons in our window are the same.

I put cotton with alcohol on my finger

where it will be cut by a knife.

You never learn from your mistakes you say.

A drop of blood from my finger

sets the sharp blade of the knife in motion.

We arrive home. Say goodbye to our colleauges.

The boss is again moody today.

Moving staircase, moving pathway. Moving emotions.

Did you turn off the water? Did you put out the fire?

Why do you keep checking if you’ve locked the door?

You turn off the radio. Morning hits are on.

It dawns for night approaches.

We wake up from reality to reality. The clock will go off.

Before we fall asleep we wish each other a better yesterday.

Halflight. Dusk or dawn?

Thursday, Wednesday, Tuesday…
