Darvasi László: The Shortest Story (A legrövidebb novella in English)

А Csin Akadémia а Patkány Évében megjelentetett irodalmi antológiájában található egy publikáció, amely А legrövidebb novella címet viseli. Az írás teljes terjedelmében így hangzik:
„Az ember meghal.”
А Csin Akadémia tudósai az íráshoz а következő lábjegyzeteket fűzték: l. „Nem túlzottan szellemes. De ha már itt tartunk, nem inkább az »Én« szót kellene а legrövidebb novella szövegtestének választani?”
2. Válasz az első megjegyzésre. „Tévedsz, uram. Az »Én« szó nem novella, hanem vers. Költészet. Ezt még az Akadémia kisiskolásai is tudják.”
3. „Uraim, fogadjuk el, létezik az а novella, amelyet а legrövidebb novellának nevezhetünk. De bizonyosak lehetünk abban, hogy meg is írták már?”
4. „Tisztelt kollégák! Tegyük föl, а legrövidebb novella című novella valóban а legrövidebb novella. А kérdés csak az, hogy helyénvaló-e а szövegtestben kifejtett állítás? Gondolkozzanak el, kérem, az én változatomon.
(Cím:) »А legrövidebb novella«
(Szövegtest:) »Mindig а másik hal meg.«” 

In the literary anthology published by the Chin Academy in the Year of the Rat, there is а piece entitled The Shortest Story, which goes as follows:
"One dies."
The learned members of the Chin Academy amended the following footnotes to the piece:
l. "Not clever enough by half. And since we're on the subject, shouldn't the word ’I’ have been chosen for the text of the shortest story in the world?"
2. Comment on the first comment: "You are wrong, Sir. The word ’I’ is not а novel, it is а poem. Poetry. Even the freshmen of the Academy know that."
3. "Gentlemen! Kindly accept the existence of а story that may justifiably be called the shortest story in the world. The question is, has it been written?"
4. "Honored Colleagues! For the sake of argument, let us suppose that the story entitled The Shortest Story is in fact the shortest story. The question is whether what the text posits is true or not. Kindly take my own version into consideration:
(Title:) ’The Shortest Story’
(Text:) ’Always the other one dies.’"
