Hervay Gizella: In short sentences (Tőmondatokban in English)

Portre of Hervay Gizella

Tőmondatokban (Hungarian)

Tőmondatokban gondolkozom.
A kanálnak nincs fénye, csak fogása van.
A kásás hó nem emlékeztet semmire.
Belelépek.
Nincs szeme a holdnak.
A fák ágai nem nyúlnak utána.
Nincs emberi mozdulata a tájnak.
Könnyebb lenne, ha jelkép lenne a virág,
a bokor anyóka,
könnyebb lenne, ha szólna hozzánk a nap,
a szél
ami emberi.
Minden más idegen, embertelen.
Egyetlen fegyverünk ellene a csupasz értelem.
Csak a kigondolt kerék a miénk,
naprobbanás ellen nincs másunk, csak az érv,
atomhalál ellen csak szó, csak szerelem,
üstökös ellen hajszálnyi jóság,
földrengés ellen törékeny műszeren
egy gondolat.
A gondolat csupaszabb és védtelenebb,
mint a megcélzott szarvas szeme.
Önmagán kívül nincs semmi egyebe.
Nincs semmi szép,
se kő, se virág, se nap,
csak az önmagát szülő gondolat.
Csak ennyi van, hogy emberek vagyunk:
kővel, nappal, halállal szembefordulunk.
Csak tőmondatok vannak, csak néhány gondolat:
Ember vagy. Egyedül. Élsz. Védd magad!

In short sentences (English)

I think in short sentences.
The spoon has no shine, only grasp.
The melting snow recalls nothing.
I step into it.
The moon has no eyes.
Branches of trees don’t reach toward it.
The landscape has no human movement.
It would be easier if the flower was a symbol,
the bush a crone,
it would be easier if the sun would talk to us,
the wind
or the pine.
But the silence recalls nothing,
not angst, nor fear.
Just silence is the silence.
Just human is the word.
Not a cackle,
not a blasting deluge.
The thought is not smaller between its borders.
The rocks were never human, nor the sun,
but were reverberated to submission by fright.
Strangers were the mud and the marble,
strangers were the fire and the rainbow,
not things named by our words,
only what humans attached to them.
Words are not meaning their essence,
only what are they useful for.
The world is not closer now,
only livable, only inhabitable.
Humans are alien on grass, in light under the sun,
and without the myths, hands hold only
what is human.
Everything else is strange, unhuman.
The one weapon is naked reason.
Only the imagined wheel is ours,
against solar flare we have nothing but argument,
against obliteration nothing but words, but love,
against a meteor, only a whisper of goodness,
against an earthquake, just a fragile thought
detected on a device.
The thought is more naked and defenseless,
than a deer’s aimed eye.
It has nothing beside itself.
There is no beauty,
no rock, no flower, no sun,
only the self-birthing thought.
All we have is that we are human:
we turn against rock, sun, death.
There are only short sentences, a few thoughts:
You are human. Alone. Alive. Defend yourself!
