Emlékeinkből porló agyagba
Dibdábolt emóciók vagyunk,
nem tudni, mi az, mi kiválasztja,
mit őriz vagy veszít el agyunk.
Jutnak eszünkbe a téli színek,
rémlik az estben a nyár maga,
sejlik a szánkban az őszi íznek
vörösbe hajló fűzöld illata.
Látunk tavaszt a levegő égben,
sajdítunk jövőt, akármi múlt,
idézünk az összes hangfekvésben
hegyeken innent és völgyeken túlt.
Többek vagyunk, mint idegrendszer,
véredények és nyirokcsomók,
lehetünk álmok is egyszer-egyszer,
dühösek, s méltán megalkuvók.
Ebbe a térképbe gombolyodva
az összes sejtbe rovott jelen,
benne az eljövő minden mocska,
s ha a jószerencsénk végtelen,
nincs belénk kódolva az értelem.

In the powdered clay of our memories
we’re nothing but dangling emotion,
we don’t really know which souvenirs
our brains lose, store, set into motion.
In our minds, criss-crossed by winter’s lull
by nightfall, summer seems to blast
the taste of purple leaves infused by fall
with the sweet scent of fading grass.
We see springtime in the blue yonder
we surmise the future, whatever passed,
we summon the tone as we wander
past hills and valleys before we rest.
We’re more than our nervous system,
blood vessels and lymphatic glands,
we may become dreams in our wisdom
and enraged, righteous compromisers.
So coiled up are we in these charts
that the present exists in our cells
with the squalor the future imparts
and if our good luck forever quells,
reason’s not engraved in our heads.
