Kovács András Ferenc: Fragmentum

Portre of Kovács András Ferenc

Fragmentum (Hungarian)

Légy fölösleges!
    Ellobban arcod - költők
    nincsenek, se költészet.
Csak egyetlen vers
    létezik - a mindenség
    egy költemény végtelen
változatának
    álma talán… Ha a csend
    kitárul, s tágul a szó
is az isteni
    szépség tériszonyában -
    teremt, nő az időben.
Csak egyetlen vers
    létezik… Amelyet írsz.
    Örökkön ismeretlen
mégis előtted -
    nem köti vágy, se törvény…
    Könyörtelen teljesség
másaként. Amit
    magadra mértél, meg sem
    értheted… Nincs irgalom.
Csak egyetlen vers
    létezik.

Fragment (English)

Be superfluous!
Your face flickers out – there are
     no poets, no poetry.
Only one poem
     exists – the whole universe
     being perhaps the dream of
a poem’s endless
     variation… When silence is
flung open, and the word too
dilates in divine
     beauty’s agoraphobia -
     fecund, growing in time.
Only one poem
     exists… That which you’re writing.
     Remains unknown to you
for eternity -
not bound by desire or law…
     A copy of pitiless
plenitude. That which
     you took upon yourself, you
     cannot measure… No mercy.
Only one poem
     exists.
