Azt hiszem, hogy szeretlek;
lehúnyt szemmel sírok azon, hogy élsz.
De láthatod, az istenek,
a por, meg az idő
mégis oly súlyos buckákat emel
közéd-közém,
hogy olykor elfog a
szeretet tériszonya és
kicsinyes aggodalma.

Ilyenkor ágyba bújva félek,
mint a természet éjfél idején,
hangtalanúl és jelzés nélkűl.

Azután
újra hiszem, hogy összetartozunk,
hogy kezemet kezedbe tettem.

I think I love you;   
with closed eyes I cry that you exist.
But you can see, the gods,
the dust, the time                       
yet raises such grievous mounds
between you, between me,                
that now and then I’m confined
by dread of love’s vastness, 
and its peddling anguish.
 
In bed I hide now in fear,
like nature at midnight,
noiselessly, and without trace.
 
Then
I believe again we belong together,
that I put my hands into yours.
