Az a gojcsik,
apró, lengyel kislány,
kinek batyum odaadtam,
tudta, hogy a fiam van benne.

Láttam, hogy tudja,
egy csecsemőt adok oda,
dávidcsillagos pólya,
ezért is mertem gyorsan,

neve, lakhelye,
s egy aranylánc is volt benne,
az a kislány ott mindent értett,
szemével akkor már sokszor intett,

hogy ne tétovázzak: most, most,
hát odaadtam a batyum végre,
és a csendőr nem vette észre,
az enyémet nem látta meg.

That little goy
that small Polish girl
to whom I gave my bundle
knew it held my son

I could tell that she knew
the bundle was a baby
branded with the star of a Jew
that's why I dared in haste

inside his address and name
and a little golden chain
that young girl grasped all
she signalled with her eyes

now do it now
so finally I did I gave her my bundle
and the guard didn't notice
he failed to notice mine
