Weöres Sándor: THE IDEAL. (AZ IDEAL. in English)

Portre of Weöres Sándor

AZ IDEAL. (Hungarian)

Az üdő estvére járván,
Én Psyche, meg-mosakszom
Rósában, rosmarinban,
Ezer jó-fű javában.
Mingyán őltözködöm már:
Kanyarok gyöngyöt nyakamba,
Gyűrűket ujjaimba,
Új pántlikát hajamba.
Lám készen-is vagyok már,
Díszemben ágyba fekszem,
Mert álmom fürjesében
Vagyon találkozásom
Derék sudár legénnyel,
Bátor tüzes szeművel,
Ő a leg-szebb, a leg-jobb,
Nevét nem vallhatom-meg;
Légy a leg-szebb, a leg-jobb,
És meg-vallom, te véled.

THE IDEAL. (English)

Eventide coming by,
I, Pscyhe, wash myself
In an essence of centaurium,
Rose and rosemary.
About to dress,
Pearls to my neck I fetch,
Rings to the fingers,
My hair with a new ribbon I tress.
See, ready I am.
In bed I lie with all my adornment,
There I shall meet,
In the quail garden of my dreams,
A proper, reedy lad,
Valiant with eyes ardent.
He is the best, the fairest.
His name I cannot confess.
Be the best, the fairest.
Then it’s thou, no less.
