Weöres Sándor: The harlequin's serenade (A paprikajancsi szerenádja in English)

Portre of Weöres Sándor

A paprikajancsi szerenádja (Hungarian)

Gyönge fuvallat a tóba zilál,
fények gyöngysora lebben,
Sóhajom, árva madár-pihe, száll
s elpihen édes öledben.
Tárt keblemen reszket a kóc:
érted szenved a Jancsi bohóc.

Szép szemeidből vérzik az ég,
sok sebe csillagos ösvény.
Egy hajfürtöd nékem elég:
sok sebemet bekötözném.
Hull a fürészpor, sorvad a kóc:
meghal érted a Jancsi bohóc.

Tálad a rózsa, tükröd a Hold,
ajkadon alkonyok égnek,
Víg kedvem sűrű búba hajolt,
téged kérlel az ének.
Hogyha kigyullad a szivem a, kóc,
nem lesz többet a Jancsi bohóc.

The harlequin's serenade (English)

Fly to the pond on a gentle breeze,
light is afloat as a neckless.
Slight as an orphan, only a wheeze
I rest in a lap, Yours, Sweetness.
Opened a heart of atremble wad
Johnny the clown is more than awed.

Sky is bleeding from your eyes so fair,
his many wounds are a star trail.
Wisp of a hair is enough, I swear,
to bind up a wound of a male.
Drift and afloat is the thinning wad,
Johnny the clown is to die, no fraud.

Rose is a bowl, and Moon is a glass,
dusk is aflame on a lip: Yours.
Joy is a long lost ally. Alas,
hear my chant, it is you it adores.
Light up a sparkle upon the wad,
won’t be a clown Johnny, oh God!
