E vedereti i gesti smisurati,

Che fece il franco Orlando per amore

Nel tempo del re Carlo imperatore.

 

Non vi par già, signor, meraviglioso

Odir cantar de Orlando inamorato,

Ché qualunche nel mondo è più orgoglioso,

È da Amor vinto, al tutto subiugato;

Né forte braccio, né ardire animoso,

Né scudo o maglia, né brando affilato,

Né altra possanza può mai far diffesa,

Che al fin non sia da Amor battuta e presa.

Grófok s urak, kik felvonultatok ma,

hogy halljatok derűs, újmódi verset,

csendben figyeljetek a szép dalokra,

melyek munkámban megelevenednek;

mert nem lesz hős próbáknak benne fogyta,

se csodás, merész cselekedeteknek,

miket a frank Lóránd tett, s állt ki régen

szerelméért, Nagy Károly idejében.

 

Számotokra, lovagok, mégse tűnjék

a szerelmes Lóránd túl különösnek,

ki, bár nem élt e földön nála büszkébb,

mégis megtört s Ámor jármába görbedt.

Mert ellene hős kar hiába küzd: vért,

kivont kard, pajzs, hő szív előtte tör meg,

s egyáltalán oly erő semmi nincsen,

amelyet le nem győz végül Ámor isten.
